Truths about tithe and offering
Many persons have had some reservations or misunderstandings concerning the scriptures about biblical principles on giving. Much of these misconceptions are carried by modern secular media who at times have little understanding of the Godly requirements on Christians. To this end, we would like to give some clarity and guidance.
What is tithing?
“Tithe” means “one tenth”.
What is the difference between tithes and offerings? A “tithe” is giving the first tenth of your income. That is, before taking out anything else including taxes. On the other hand, an offering is anything that you give in addition to your tithe. There are various types of offerings.
Why should you tithe?
You should tithe because God commanded it in the scriptures.
“A tenth of all you produce belongs to the Lord” Leviticus 27:30
Tithing gives you an opportunity to show devotion to God in the area of your finance.
It helps you to fear the Lord and to put the Lord in first place always. Deuteronomy 14:23 (LB)
How often should I give
The tithe should be given weekly. “On the first day of every week, set aside some of what you have earned and give it as an offering. The amount depends on how much the Lord has helped you earn.” 1 Corinthians 16:2 (NIV)
